Elected Officer Position Descriptions


  • Gains knowledge and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the President;
  • Keeps abreast of current OSHP activities
  • Develops objectives and goals for his or her year as President
  • Gains knowledge of the Constitution and Bylaws, and of the Goals and Objectives of OSHP
  • Serves as a member of the following:
    • Committee on Finance and Executive Committee, Vice Chair of the Board, and the House of Delegates
  • Performs the duties of the President when the President is unable to do so
  • Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the President and the Board of Directors
  • Presents an address to the Annual Meeting of the OSHP
  • Plans OSHP Board of Directors planning retreat with the Executive Vice President for Presidential Year
  • Serves as Vice Chair of the Committee on Nominations

Term of Office
One year (elected by the membership and transitions to the Office of President after one year).


  • Responsible for ensuring effective administration of the operations of OSHP, assigning responsibilities and coordinating activities with assistance of the Executive Vice President.
  • Establishes objectives for the year based on the strategic plan based on discussions with officers and other key leaders;
  • Promotes, influences and fosters the growth of the profession statewide and nationwide;
  • Serves as the major contact person for OSHP with responsibility for the majority of the formal communications between OSHP and other organizations; communicates with Board members and officers of other organizations to advise and establish dialogue
  • Serves as a liaison between ASHP and OSHP members; communicates with ASHP staff members to provide and obtain information and assistance
  • Communicates with OSHP members and other Health-System pharmacists to seek member input and ideas; encourages participation of chapter members
  • Works with the Executive Vice President in setting agenda before Board meetings
  • Presides at all OSHP meetings
  • Works closely with the Director of Membership & Marketing to recruit new members and retain current members
  • With the approval of the Board of Directors, calls meetings of the House of Delegates at any time upon written request from the majority of the members of the House
  • Serves as a member of the following:
    • Committee on Finance and Chair of the Executive Committee, House of Delegates
  • Supports Board members in defining responsibilities and timetables for projects
  • Supports Division Directors in establishing guidelines and projects and in reviewing results
  • Appoints members to vacant positions except as otherwise provided in the Bylaws
  • Appoints the Directors and members of the OSHP’s Divisions with Board approval annually
  • Appoints members to Committees with the approval of the Board of Directors annually
  • Appoints ad-hoc committees and Chairs thereof as deemed necessary to carry out the responsibilities and programs of the Affiliate
  • Writes a President's Column in each newsletter issue
  • Provides a report to the House of Delegates at the Annual Meeting
  • Gives welcoming remarks at OSHP sponsored seminars
  • Authorizes the various divisions to represent themselves as acting on behalf of OSHP when contacting other organizations as appropriate

Term of office
One year (this position transitions from the Office of President-elect and transitions to the Office of Immediate Past President).

Immediate Past President

  • Fosters good will with officers and members of the local area chapters
  • Writes letters of appreciation to other organizations with which he/she has worked during his or her presidential year to maintain OSHP contact and to introduce the new OSHP President
  • Serves as a member of the following:
    • Committee on Finance, Executive Committee, Chair of the House of Delegates
  • Serves as a member of the Board of Directors; in the absence of the President and the President-elect, serves as the Chair of the Board
  • Performs special assignments or projects as requested by the President
  • Conducts the annual review of the Executive Vice President contract at the end of calendar year immediately following completion of Presidential term of office
  • Serves as Chair of the Committee on Nominations

Term of Office
One year (this position transitions from the Office of President).


  • Provides oversight to the Organization’s financial affairs
  • Monitoring and communicating as necessary to the various Divisions, the Board of Directors, and other groups.
  • Responsibilities of the Treasurer include but are not limited to:
    • Paying invoices
    • Maintaining the checkbook
    • Reviewing bank statements
    • Reviewing credit card statements
    • Reviewing Offinger statements
    • Preparing Board of Directors meeting reports
    • Preparing House of Delegates reports
    • Preparing annual budgets
    • Chairing the finance committee
    • Preparing annual tax information for the preparer and filing the return with IRS
    • Preparing annual 1099 and 1098 tax forms
    • send to recipients and mail 1099 copies and 1098 to IRS
    • Retaining files of treasurer-related documents
