Divisions of the OSHP PDF Print E-mail

ORGANIZATIONAL AFFAIRS DIVISION

This division is responsible for all the issues of a procedural nature that come before OSHP.  It also ensures that our governing documents, such as the Constitution and Bylaws, are current and adaptable for future growth and changes.  Its membership includes the representatives to the Board of Directors from each local chapter across the state, including student chapters.  This group works to maintain consistency and to ensure each local chapter is functioning within the boundaries of OSHP’s mission.

PROFESSIONAL AFFAIRS DIVISION

This division is responsible for the development and improvement of the professional practice of pharmacy.  Solicitation of nominations and selections of award recipients is an important function of the division, as it gives OSHP an opportunity to recognize those who are providing the highest level of service to patients and the profession.  The group also creates, reviews, and revises professional position papers that document the stance OSHP takes on important issues affecting pharmacy.  Recently, the division has started the process to enhance networking opportunities for pharmacists involved in special areas of pharmacy practice.  Examples of this include the Pain Management Special Interest Group, who worked to revise the existing Pain Management position paper, created a comprehensive list of pain management internet sites, and developed an information packet on the use of meperidine.  The duties of the division are to provide avenues for pharmacists to continue to grow through networking with other professionals as well as through professional development in their chosen area of practice.

LEGAL AFFAIRS DIVISION

This division works to make an impact on legislation that affects pharmacy practice by interacting with the Board of Pharmacy and OSHP’s lobbyist to inform members of pending legislation that effect pharmacists and their practice sites.  Programs are being developed to make it easier to meet your representatives and know their positions on various legislative issues that affect pharmacy.  The group continues to expand its role while monitoring legislation and rule changes within the state and nation to make sure pharmacists are represented as the healthcare world changes.

COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

This division provides an invaluable service to OSHP.  It is this group that allows for the flow of ideas and discussions to keep OSHP current and active.  The group has worked hard to develop publications, websites, and increase our presence and visibility through public relations.  The OSHP Bulletin serves as a hardcopy of the organization’s activities that is mailed to each member.  In addition, the website holds information that ranges from how to contact officers to the position OSHP takes on topics effecting pharmacy and medicine.  The website also contains links specifically geared toward our members as well as students from the four pharmacy schools in Ohio.  This division continues to expand and keep pace with technology.  Plans for the future are to develop the members only section of the website to include continuing education, as well as job opportunities and career advancement.

EDUCATIONAL AFFAIRS DIVISION

This division is responsible for the continuing education of our members.  The group accomplishes this task by organizing and promoting the Annual Meeting that showcases topics designed for pharmacists practicing in a variety of settings.  The Annual Meeting continues to grow and now includes a showcase of companies and other pharmacy organizations, not to mention the Ohio Hospital Association, as well as separate technician and student educational tracks.  Recent accomplishments include the creation of an all-Ohio pharmacy residency showcase.  As OSHP continues to attract different types of members, this group will continue to develop new ways of providing education opportunities.

MEMBERSHIP/MARKETING DIVISION

This division is responsible for recruitment and retention of membership. as well as promotion of OSHP.  This division continually assesses marketing tools to promote OSHP to students, new practitioners, current members, non-renewers, and current non-members. Increasing visibility of the organization and the number of members in OSHP is an ongoing goal of the division, along with "active participation" of our membership.  The division also works with Ohio's colleges of pharmacy to promote their local student chapters of OSHP.
